Background

The philosophy and story behind the 'Psychic' Psychologist
As a teenager, Rob became fascinated with studies of behaviour in humans and animals; even his biology A-Level project showed signs of what was to come, as he predicted the choices that woodlice would make under controlled scientific conditions.*

All this led to additional study at evening class for an A-Level in psychology, then off to university for a BSc and MSc in the subject, Since then, Rob has followed a varied psychology career in hospitals, working in prisons and for many years advising businesses.

After years of being asked, “Can you read my mind?” and resisting the temptation to say, "Yes and shall I do it again?" which would just be rude, Rob decided it was time to rise to the challenge. Using a wealth of psychological insights, he delivers a show that is simultaneously thought-provoking, comical and uplifting. He appears to read minds, draw pictures of what people are thinking and (only with permission) will even have a go at guessing personal secrets from the audience.

Rob says, “The shows are just as much a demonstration of my enthusiasm for psychology as they are an entertaining protest against how frauds and influencers take advantage of our psychological misunderstandings.”

By showing how psychology can create the illusions of mind-reading, the show becomes what one reviewer called “an interesting insight into a certain type of psychology, a satisfying two fingers up to mainstream performance mysticism and an opportunity to coo at mind reading tricks, guilt free.”

"Informative and funny, his presentation is very engaging... This scientific training allied to his natural abilities as a comic make for a very unusual show..." Oxford Times

*He found that most woodlice preferred Neighbours to Home and Away.** They were also more enamoured with warm, damp places with bits of wood previously inhabited by other woodlice.

**The bit about Australian soaps isn't actually true. They liked Eastenders.
